How fundraising works on HungryFriend

Whether you’ve already added your group, organization, or charity, or haven’t started yet, there are a few things to keep in mind as you begin. In this article, we’ll explain how HungryFriend, and group fundraising in general, works, and we’ll also share some tips for successful fundraising. 


What is group fundraising? 

As an organizer, it’s important to know that the success of your fundraising often depends on who you share it with. We have plenty of articles and tips to help your fundraising gain visibility and reach a wider audience.


Group fundraising, essentially crowdfunding, is when a group of people come together and donate to a cause that they care about. As a HungryFriend group organizer, you will be reaching out to your friends, family, and community to ask for support by sharing your referral link. We know that this might feel a bit overwhelming, but keep in mind, everyone needs help sometimes, and your network will likely be more than happy to support your cause. If you’re thinking “well, I don’t have a very big network to share with”, please continue reading because we have some suggestions that could help.


How can I be successful?

The simple answer is: share. Share your fundraiser as far and wide as possible, because this is how people are going to find it. Social media is a great resource, so if you or your group have Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or Twitter accounts, those would be great places to start. It’s also important to make sure that you have a compelling group description or story since that is what people will read to learn more about your goals. If you don’t have a personal network of friends or family that you feel comfortable asking for donations, there are other options. We would recommend thinking creatively about different groups that might be interested in supporting your cause. This could be anything from a local nonprofit, to a church group, to reaching out to local media outlets; even if these groups aren’t in a position to donate, they could share your fundraiser for you and help you to gain support.
